DMG MORI APPROVED certification program

The highest quality requirements for used machine tools

Certified quality by DMG MORI Used Machines

All milling machines with the APPROVED quality seal are inspected and refurbished by DMG MORI Used Machines in compliance with the manufacturer's specifications. Each machine goes through an established inspection process:

Automation

1. Incoming quality inspection

After thorough cleaning the machine is first inspected visually. In this inspection, we not only establish the overall visual condition of the machines, but also pay special attention to identify hidden defects, such as worn guides or damaged drives. As a manufacturer DMG MORI Used Machines has access to the entire maintenance history and can therefore specifically focus on eliminating potential defects.

Automation

2. Functional testing

The component inspection is followed by an inspection of all the milling machine functions. This includes thorough testing of the individual components, such as the spindle, the tool magazine and the tool changer. For maximum accuracy, all axes are measured according to the manufacturer’s specifications and realigned if necessary. We record the measurement results in a geometry report so our clients can see the accuracy of our machines for themselves. DMG MORI also checks the control systems of used milling machines and updates them to the latest possible software version.

Automation

3. Repair

All defects identified during the inspections are eliminated and any defective parts are replaced with new spare parts.

Automation

4. Outgoing quality inspection

The final quality assurance includes endurance testing and a checklist-based inspection. Now nothing stands in the way of trouble-free use of the machine for the remainder of its life.

How do I find the right used milling machine?

How do I find the right used milling machine?

If you are looking to buy a used CNC milling machine, you should consider several important factors so that you get the best machine for the machining of your workpieces.

Selecting the right machine:

Check the technical specifications of the machine thoroughly to ensure that it can perform the desired machining. Pay attention to basic properties, such as the travel path, the milling machine type, the tool holder, the number of axes and the control system:

Travel path and weight:

Make sure that the machine is able to mill your largest workpiece by checking the machine's travel in the X, Y and Z axes. Also consider the weight of your workpiece, as it can impose greater demands on the stability, bed and design of the milling machine.

Milling machine type:

Depending on the chip volume and the weight of your workpiece, it might make sense to choose a horizontal milling machine instead of a vertical milling machine.

Spindle and tool holder:

Pay attention to the condition of the spindle and the tool holder as these components are crucial for machining your workpiece. Make sure that the spindle can deliver the required speed and power (in kW) to achieve optimal cutting results.

Number of axes:

To select the right machine, consider how many axes are required to machine your workpiece.

Control system:

The control system is an important factor to consider when selecting your machine. Make sure that the control system suits your skills, work processes and preferences.

By considering these factors, you can ensure that the used milling machine you purchase will meet your needs and give you the best possible performance. You can find all immediately available machines from DMG MORI here in our CNC Scout. We would be happy to advise you!

What should you look out for when purchasing a used milling machine?

What should you look out for when purchasing a used milling machine?

Condition:

The first thing you should do is thoroughly check the condition of the machine. You need to differentiate between unavoidable signs of usage and actual damage, defects or signs of wear and tear that could impair the machining quality. The precision of the machine is crucial for the quality of the workpieces being machined, in some cases, it all comes down to hundredths or even thousandths of a mm. Therefore, ask for a geometric inspection of the machine to make sure that the accuracy is correct in all axes.

In the best-case scenario, you should inspect the machine when it is still operational in order to make sure that all components are working properly.

General aspects:

In addition to the technical components another important factor you should consider is customer service. Make sure that spare parts are available for the machine and that you have access to a reliable customer service team that can provide you with support when needed.

Of course, defects cannot be ruled out in complex machines. This is why we developed the DMG MORI APPROVED certification so that you can purchase a CNC milling machine that will meet your needs and make your business successful in the long term.
