05/09/2022|Open House Pfronten 2022 - Cell Controller

Unique orchestration for the self-determined shopfloor

The CELL CONTROLLER LPS 4 from DMG MORI offers efficient management and control of flexibly automated manufacturing systems.

The CELL CONTROLLER LPS 4 is available for the DMG MORI system offerings CPP, LPP, MATRIS, WH Flex and also integrates the autonomous transport vehicles of the DMG MORI AGVs as well as modular combinations to form a virtual manufacturing network. From left to right: Christoph Grosch (DMG MORI), Dr. Thomas Wrede (Tebis)
  • Pallet, workpiece and tool handling
  • Control of AGV (Automated Guided Vehicles)
  • Production Planning and Control
  • CELOS Job Manager
  • Reporting & evaluation functions, e.g. OEE

The new CELL CONTROLLER LPS 4 from DMG MORI is capable of integrating all individual machines, cells and manufacturing systems on the shopfloor into a flexible manufacturing network. In addition, the system also controls the automatic supply of materials, tools and operating supplies via autonomous transport vehicles (AGVs). Finally, the new DMG MORI API seamlessly connects the shopfloor network with higher-level systems such as APS, MES and ERP.

At first glance, the new CELL CONTROLLER LPS 4 from DMG MORI appears to be a completely normal offering for the management and control of flexibly automated manufacturing systems. As such, the new controller system naturally performs perfectly. Above all, however, it opens a window for users into the digital future of the self-determined shopfloor. Because in addition to the traditional focus as a singular control center for manufacturing systems, the new DMG MORI master computer can be used to bidirectionally manage, plan, control and monitor the entire manufacturing process.

For this purpose, previously autonomously acting machining centers, production cells or complementary stations can be integrated. In addition, it is possible to supply the machining stations with material, tools, clamping devices and operating materials automatically and as required from the master computer via driverless transport vehicles (AGVs).

The necessary interoperable connection of the CELL CONTROLLER LPS 4 to the corresponding management systems takes place via interfaces, e.g. for ERP or MES, and a central data hub in which the data or data sets are collected, provided and exchanged. This is precisely where the big circle to the autonomous shop floor closes: Because with the appropriate connectivity solutions, the CELL CONTROLLER LPS 4 connects seamlessly with higher-level planning and control systems at production and company level. The foundation for self-determined interaction with manufacturing-on-demand platforms is also laid here.

The CELL CONTROLLER LPS 4 offers a clear display of machines, setup stations and line status, incl. manual intervention options in the sequence, for example for pallet transports.
