DMG MORI SAILING TEAM’s new boat “DMG MORI Global One” has been launched in France
DMG MORI SAILING TEAM (hereinafter referred to as “Team”) has had a Christening Ceremony of the new boat “DMG MORI Global One” on September 11th in Lorient, France. Dr. Mori, President of DMG MORI CO., LTD. gave a welcome speech to the guests, and presented the project to “Vendée Globe 2020” and introduced the team members before the boat was officially christened.
On October 30th, 2018 the go-ahead was given for a unique project: The DMG MORI SAILING TEAM was launched. The construction of the Teams yacht named “DMG MORI Global One” started last November at Multiplast in Vannes, France, and took about nine months to finish. Some components for the boat were manufactured on DMG MORI machines.
The DMG MORI Global One boat has been presented for the first time in France on August 31st. After the Roll Out it made its way to Lorient. From now on, the Team will participate in the qualifying race to win the entry of “Vendée Globe 2020”. “Vendée Globe” will start in November 2020, the sailing race round the world, solo, non-stop and without assistance. Initially, training is planned in France and Portugal. In addition, the Team plans to participate at the Transatlantic Yacht Race, "The Transat" and "Transat NY-Vendée" in May 2020.
The Skipper of the Team is the Japanese sea adventurer Kojiro Shiraishi. For him the project is a second chance to fulfil his heart's desire: "I had been dreaming of participating the race for 30 years, and the dream came true in 2016. As the first Asian who joined the race, I wanted to cross the finish line but failed to do so. I was deeply disappointed, but from the moment I accepted and overcome the sorrow and decided to run the race again, I became a challenger, not a loser. I am honored and grateful to sail with DMG MORI."
