Innovative production technology from Italy

DMG MORI will once again demonstrate its innovative strength in CNC machining at the BI-MU with modern production turning centers from GILDEMEISTER Italiana.

DMG MORI will be presenting 14 CNC machines from its high-tech portfolio on its 850-m² exhibition area at this year’s BI-MU in Milan that is to take place from 4th to 8th October 2016. The focus of the trade fair will be on GILDEMEISTER Italiana as a competence site for production turning and the DMU 90 P duoBLOCK.

Within DMG MORI GILDEMEISTER Italiana in Brembate di Sopra is the centre of competence for automatic turning centers and production turning centers.

As the sole manufacturer of metal cutting machine tools in Italy GILDEMEISTER Italiana has gathered extensive expertise in the development and production of automatic turning centers and production turning centers over the past decades. So where this topic is concerned the site has developed to become the largest centre of competence within the global DMG MORI network. In addition, the NLX 2500 for the European market is assembled at the recently modernised site in Brembate die Sopra where the application technology for the WASINO models is also developed.

For many years, GILDEMEISTER Italiana has enhanced the high-end portfolio of DMG MORI with SPRINT turning centers equipped with several turrets and the SWISSTYPEkit for short and long turning. Added to these are the multi-spindle machines of the GM series and the CNC-controlled GMC series. GILDEMEISTER Italiana covers workpiece diameters of between 2 and 90 mm with this machine programme, thus ensuring there is an ideal solution available for virtually every application required in production turning.

In addition, GILDEMEISTER Italiana plays a key role in Europe within the global network of the machine tool manufacturer. Mutual use of the global production facilities within the cooperation between the German DMG MORI AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT and Japanese DMG MORI COMPANY LIMITED enables a significant reduction in transport costs and shorter delivery times. Currency crises and customs duties no longer present any great obstacles, either. So where Italian production is concerned the manufacture of the NLX 2500 has also been established in Brembate di Sopra. The universal turning center has expanded both the technological range of performance of GILDEMEISTER Italiana and the application technology for WASINO turning centers. GILDEMEISTER Italiana manufactures up to 700 turning centers a year with its available production capacity. 

DMU 90 P duoBLOCK - Heavy-duty machining with an attractive package price

The DMU 90 P duoBLOCK allows an economical entry into heavy-duty machining.

5-axis machining of the highest level is also the trademark of the fourth generation of the successful duoBLOCK series. Outstanding features here include the highly stable design of the universal machines, long-term accuracy and highest precision with up to 4 μm positioning accuracy even in the standard version. With its DMU 90 P duoBLOCK, DMG MORI now presents a machine that will continue the triumphal march of the machining centres. This latest model is designed as a package machine with a high-performance motor spindle, space for 60 SK50 tools and IKZ coolant unit and guarantees an economical entry into heavy-duty machining.

Applications in tool and mould making as well as in general mechanical engineering call for investment in reliable, high-performance production equipment. DMG MORI has now expanded its range to include the attractively priced DMU 90 P duoBLOCK geared especially towards the universal machining typical for tool and mould making and mechanical engineering. With an X-axis travel of 900 mm and workpiece weight of 1,800 kg, it outperforms the smaller DMU 80 P duoBLOCK. Where its technical equipment is concerned, DMG MORI has concentrated on heavy-duty machining and offers the DMU 90 P duoBLOCK as an appropriately equipped package machine. The first class equipment package of the DMU 90 P duoBLOCK includes a vertical chain magazine with space for 60 SK50 tools and a powerful 52-kW motor spindle. With a speed of 12,000 rpm and a torque of 430 Nm, it can handle even demanding machining tasks. A spindle growth sensor, machine protection control and a 600-liter IKZ coolant unit with 40 bar and 23 l/min complete the basic machine.

CELOS and Industry 4.0 – Products and solutions for the digital transformation

The topic “Industry 4.0” is dominating the discussion of the future like no other, even in the sector of machine tool construction. So CELOS offers customers complete integration of their machines in the company organisation while simultaneously creating today the interface of metal cutting production in the cyber-physical production system of the future. The DMG MORI process chain is a prime example of a successful digital transformation and a practical link from the virtual to the real world. Based on different kind of modules, the DMG MORI Process Chain provides programming and simulation software solutions. Thus allowing perfect planning, effective prevention of collisions and a reduction of setup time to an absolute minimum. For example, the importance of the DMG MORI Virtual Machine is comparable to that of the racing simulator for the pilots. It enables a 1:1 simulation under real conditions – including machine kinematics and control. The result is a high degree of safety and speed in the (exciting) real world.

Workshop-oriented programming is still of great importance especially in single item production and the production of small and medium-sized quantities – and it will remain just as important for a long time to come. Whereby working with cycles is now state-of-the-art and standard cycles for turning, milling and drilling have long been included in the performance range of modern controls. Based on its decades of application experience DMG MORI has gone far beyond the standard and currently has 24 exclusive DMG MORI Technology Cycles for the fields of turning / turning-milling or rather milling / milling-turning in its portfolio. These enable the operator in the shopfloor to programme complex machining up to 80 % faster by directly using the parameterised context menus in the dialog of the control.
