Green Transformation (GX) for a sustainable and climate-friendly future
With a clear focus on sustainable processes and climate protection, DMG MORI is driving environmental change in machine tool and NC manufacturing.
As the world's leading manufacturer of high-precision machine tools, DMG MORI has placed the Machining Transformation (MX) at the heart of its customer-focused strategy for the future. A central component of this is the Green Transformation (GX), which is being driven forward with targeted measures and actively contributes to reducing emissions and promoting climate protection. For ecological transformation, DMG MORI takes into account all aspects along the value chain – from sustainable purchasing and resource-saving machines with pioneering features such as GREENMODE for energy-efficient machine operation, to overhaul and recycling at the end of a machine's life cycle.
DMG MORI is also promoting the development of green technologies (GREENTECH), which are crucial to the energy revolution, through expertise partnerships. In this way, the company is making an important contribution to industrial ecology on the way to a climate-neutral Europe by 2050.
Green Transformation with resource-efficient production solutions
Since 2021, DMG MORI has been committed to the Science Based Targets initiative, which aims to limit global warming to a maximum of 1.5 degrees Celsius. To this end, the company has set ambitious targets for reducing and eliminating emissions in all scopes (Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3 upstream) along the entire supply chain. Manufacturing solutions from DMG MORI should therefore not only be produced in a resource-efficient manner, be of high quality and durable, but also recyclable – a valuable contribution to the Green Transformation (GX) and the achievement of European climate protection targets. In addition, process integration, automation and Digital Transformation (DX), which are anchored in the customer-oriented Machining Transformation (MX) framework, increase efficiency and thus contribute to economic and ecological sustainability.
GREENMODE sets new standards for industrial energy efficiency
Increasing energy efficiency in industry is crucial to meeting climate change goals and responding to rising energy prices. With GREENMODE, DMG MORI is setting new standards for energy savings in production. Energy efficiency is already a key consideration in the development and design of machine tools. By using innovative hardware and software components, DMG MORI is able to reduce energy consumption by more than 30 percent. Particularly large savings, often up to 70 percent, are achieved in machine and process cooling – one of the largest energy consumers in production. Other approaches include the demand-driven operation of machine components, the use of highly efficient cooling systems and the adaptive supply of cooling lubricants.
A fascinating example from DMG MORI's manufacturing plant in Iga, Japan, shows how closely engineering excellence is linked to the Machining Transformation (MX) framework. There, a move towards process integration and a switch to state-of-the-art 5-axis machines in the production of large parts has resulted in a 42 percent reduction in CO2 emissions. Replacing older gantry machining centres reduced the number of machines required to do the same work from 100 to 20, and reduced energy consumption from 600 kW to 350 kW.

GREENTECH: Expertise partnership for green technologies
As part of the Green Transformation (GX), GREENTECH stands for close collaboration and the pooling of knowledge and expertise in the development and production of sustainable technologies and products. The focus is on innovative components for renewable energy applications such as wind power, hydropower, hydrogen electrolysis and electromobility. All projects are supported by the comprehensive solution portfolio of the Machining Transformation (MX) framework.
With the further development of green technologies as part of the ecological transformation, the demands on manufacturers and suppliers in the machine tool industry are growing, especially when it comes to machining new workpieces. DMG MORI works closely with users to develop customised manufacturing solutions that meet these challenges. These include technologies such as 5-axis simultaneous machining, 6-sided complete machining, additive manufacturing and laser precision machining. At DMG MORI's Centres of Excellence, customers benefit from the machine tool manufacturer's extensive expertise – from the initial idea to the finished product.
Machining Transformation (MX): the path to sustainable manufacturing solutions
The Machining Transformation (MX) framework brings together process integration, automation, Digital Transformation (DX) and Green Transformation (GX) into an innovative and sustainable whole. The MX framework plays a critical role in reducing the carbon footprint in the ever-evolving technology landscape of CNC manufacturing. It is a beacon that points the way to a new era of cost-effective and environmentally sustainable production processes and methods – and a greener economy for the future.
